ABOUT

Teufel Hunde

'Teufel Hunde' (pronounced toy-ful huund) is a hockey club based in East Lansing, MI. that competes in the Suburban Ice East Lansing 30+ Ice Hockey League.

About our name:

During WWI, the German army was often opposed by a hellish group in battle -  a foe they called Teufel Hunden. Today, the United States Marine Corps. still affectionately refer to themselves in the English translation of the phrase... the Devil Dogs!

"Teufel Hunde" is actually translated as 1 singular Devil Dog. Just like the tail or head of a dog can not operate independently of the body, we too can not operate as individuals on the team and expect anything good to happen. We need everyone on the team to play for the same cause as one to make it work... that is why the team name is "Hunde" and not "Hunden."

Formation:

In the summer of 2013, the "Founding Four" members of Teufel Hunde (Chris Delcamp, Tim Healy, Jeff Michalak, and Gary Stolicker) found themselves on the same summer hockey league team (Howards Brick and Mortar). After the season, they wanted to create a team of their own, and in September of 2013, Teufel Hunde was a registered team in what was then known as the Suburban Ice 30/40+ Ice Hockey League.

You will notice we have not designated Captains (C) or Alternate/Assistant captains (A) on our team. We feel that leadership can come from anyone at anytime, and designating a Captain may hinder other players from becoming leaders, or leading when such a time comes. We do have natural leaders on the team, and the players know who they are, but this system allows for others to step up.
